The importance of safety for kids is universal. A positive and supportive team culture encourages girls to take safe risks while knowing they have the support of the team.

Given the previous lessons on why relationships matter for girls, you understand that physical and emotional safety is necessary for emotional connections to happen. A successful team culture will keep girls engaged and motivate them to come back year after year.

Although there are many different elements to how culture is built and there’s no one-size-fits-all strategy for a successful team, there are four key themes that can help you cultivate a positive space for your team to grow and thrive.

Ensure your girls’ safety is always being considered.

Create peer support networks.

Provide roles that assure girls of their importance to team success.

Introduce traditions that bring a sense of connection.

This section will explore how to ensure physical and emotional safety.
